BOAT is Open to Everyone! Irrespective of their gender, age, race, sexuality, religion, ability and colour of their jumper! BOAT has the Bronze Award from ‘Attitude is Everything’ and is signed up to their Charter Of Best Practice. Here is some information to assist you with your access choices. BOAT is by definition a ‘RELAXED VENUE’. Set in a public park with no cover we do not have ‘black-outs’ as the sun serves as house lighting. Our shows are accompanied by the ambient noise of birdsong, children playing and some distant traffic sounds. There are no restrictions on audience movement during shows, there is a field and play park near by offering excellent ‘chill out areas’ for adults and children. Doors Open an hour before the show starts for people to farmiliarise themselves with the venue. Audiences are encouraged to bring in their own picnics and drinks. BOAT has flat access throughout, although the terrain is a little uneven and there are some steep slopes. Our staff and volunteers are here to help you – please ask if you need assistance. The terrain is grass with gravel pathways. There are 4 wheelchair positions in the auditorium, these can be reserved in advance. Both the Bar and Box Office have lowered counters. The nearest parking and taxi drop off point to the venue are the public bays on Dyke Road next to the café, approximately 150 meters away. The route from this area is a paved pathway. The 14, 14C, 27 and 77 buses go past the park on Dyke Road. The nearest stop is outside Windlesham School. The nearest toilets are the Male / Female public loos that are maintained by Brighton and Hove Council situated in at the Dyke Road Café approx 100 meters away. These have limited accessibility and are not accessible by wheelchair. We have been campaigning to the council to make these more accessible. The auditorium is made of tiered astro-turf terraces. Most audience members sit on blankets on the astro-turf. If you find sitting without support uncomfortable you may bring ‘camping chairs’ to sit on. However these must be placed on the back row of the auditorium so as not to obscure sight lines for other members of the audience.
