We are the East Sussex branch of Cruse Bereavement Care, a UK charity established in 1959 which offers a nationwide network of confidential support and information to bereaved people of all ages, free of charge.
We understand that grief is a different process for everyone and our long experience tells us that bereaved people can find great comfort and relief in being able to express their feelings and talk through their distress with those who are trained to listen. We treat each bereaved person as an individual and empathise with their needs on that basis. Understanding grief and loss is essential to healing and future wellbeing.
However recent or long ago your bereavement was, you can approach Cruse at any time for practical information or confidential support. Our services are provided by trained volunteers and are confidential and free.
If one-to-one support is the best way of meeting your needs, a trained Bereavement Volunteer will visit you in your own home - or if you prefer you can be seen privately at one of our offices or at a suitable alternative venue. Each session is by appointment and usually lasts 60 minutes. You see the same Bereavement Volunteer every week for up to six weeks but are under no obligation to continue and can stop at any time. If you are under 16 your first meeting takes place with a parent or guardian present because parental consent is obligatory. After that, sessions can be on a one-to-one basis if you prefer.
